This statue is in Auckland’s biggest park, The Auckland Domain. The park is like sneaking a little slice of peaceful pie in the middle of a throbbing city. The three-figure statue comanding attention at the pool of reflection represents the only three things the city thought it needed in order to thrive: Prosperity, Strength, and Wisdom.
Is success that simple – be strong, be wise, and prosper?

Cutest. Thing. Ever! (In the interest of not being creepy and taking photos of someone else’s kids, we took a picture of the sidewalk stamp instead.)

Hopefully by now you’ve heard about Gretchen Rubin‘s The Happiness Project. She decided to spend a year searching for the thing she really wanted….happiness.
What I love about this project is that Gretchen decided she wanted to be happy, and then immediately began to search for how she could make it happen. She identified a goal and made a commitment. Then she spent the rest of the year reading, learning, and being open to change.

By Danielle, on August 22nd, 2008 I have an old Dutch relative who always says to the younger people in the family, “SLOOOWWWW DOWWWNNN!” whenever we get too panicked about something. His unrushed, methodical enjoyment of life got me thinking, wouldn’t it be fun if life were slower? If we all had time for an afternoon siesta, if we lingered over our meals, enjoying every flavor, and if we weren’t in such a rush that we could make it to the end of a week and feel well-rested?
