The Care and Feeding of Narcissists

Psychology Today has an article entitled A Field Guide to Narcissism, on how to deal with narcissists at work, in a relationship, or in the mirror.

Here’s a quick summary on the care and feeding of narcissists:

At Work: “The difference between Larry Ellison and God is that God doesn’t think he’s Larry Ellison.”

You can’t always escape the egomaniac in the cubicle next door, but a few techniques may help you endure the experience.

  1. Butter him up. Try flattery, a time-honored way to manipulate a narcissist.

Shattering Glass on Fresh Air

Today, CBC’s weekend morning show Fresh Air featured Nancy-Gay Rotstein , author of Shattering Glass. The book is a story about 3 women who are each struggling with the tension of financial independence, career success, and family life. It’s a creative fiction approach to a non-fiction topic (just like my book) which makes for an entertaining and preach-free read.

According to the author, she explores what happens when women shatter the glass ceiling; and it doesn’t all sound positive. The book was originally published in 1996 and re-released this year.

What To Do When You’re Underemployed

It amazes me when I venture out of my apartment during the day to run, shop, eat, and I find that there are people just like me filling the streets, parks, libraries, restaurants.

Just like me how? Adults who are not tourists, or on vacation, or taking care of children, or coming or going to work.

In a word, under-employed.

Maybe you work from home. Maybe you’re employed part-time. Maybe you’re a consultant and work is slow. Or maybe you’re just plain unemployed. Being under-employed can be ….well…boring. Even though I’m writing, and working on a new business idea, and working part . . .

How Habits Make Us Who We Are

Men’s natures are alike; it is their habits that separate them.  ~ Confucius

You’re a morning person, I’m a night owl. You skip breakfast, I wouldn’t miss it for anything. You shop at the same grocery store every week, I shop at the same grocery store every week, but I don’t shop at your grocery store. Why? Habits.

Habits have a huge influence on our lives because they contribute to our successes, failures, personalities, relationships, and opinions.

But why?

Habits Co-Mingle

The people I know well are somewhat predictable to me, and I know that my usual behaviors . . .
